Men’s soccer

The Bethany University men’s soccer team traveled to Soka University south of Los Angeles on Sept. 9 and 11 where they played Southwestern University and Soka University.

The Bruins suffered a 2-0 loss to Soka but pulled off a 5-4 win against Southwestern with two goals from Joel Pelton and goals from Matheus Barbosa, Gabe Cassaro and Alfredo Martinez.

The team is 2-2 in nonconference play.

The team’s next game starts the California Pacific Conference season against Cal State Maritime at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at Skypark in Scotts Valley.

Women’s soccer

The Bruins had a busy weekend, playing two games in Ailso Viejo last week.

Their first game against Soka University on Sept. 9 was a 0-0 tie, and they fell in their next game against Southwestern University, 3-2. Sophomore Jourdan Jimenez and freshman Sierra Licata scored for the Bruins.

On Monday, Sept. 13, Bethany had a home game and played against Marymount College, where the Bruins lost, 5-0.

The team hosts Mills College at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at Skypark in Scotts Valley to open the Cal-Pac schedule.

Volleyball

The Bethany girls traveled to William Jessup on Sept. 10 for the Warrior Challenge tournament. The Bruins won three out of their five games matches.

Sophomore setter Kirsten Duren was also named Cal-Pac Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her work in the tournament. She had 29 kills, 174 assists and 42 digs total.

The team played University of California, Merced, and traveled to Occidental College for the Tiger Fall Classic, but scores were not available as of press time.

Cross country

The Bruins cross country team will open the Cal-Pac Conference meet schedule on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Mills Invitational.
