Smart Meters are an assault on our rights to privacy, security, and health and safety. Contrary to the "green" propaganda, this program is predicted to increase our carbon footprint. And let's not forget the economic implications of the program. At a time when people in our community are losing their jobs, even their homes, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has $6 billion in rate increases pending at the California Public Utilities Commission.
Although both the City of Scotts Valley and the County of Santa Cruz have petitioned the CPUC for a moratorium on the installation of smart meters, PG&E continues installation throughout the county today. While we currently can't opt out of the program, we can resist. Here's how:
Call the PG&E Smart Meter Line at 866-743-0263 and tell them you do not want a smart meter. They'll say you can't opt out but that they'll put you at the end of the installation schedule.
Go to http://stopsmartmeters.wordpress.com and download and print a "Do Not Install" sign, as well as a "Smart-Meter-Free Zone" sign. Place the "Do Not Install" sign on both your gas and electric meter, or go ahead and make your own sign. PG&E has publicly stated that it will not shut off power to those boycotting.
Inform and include your neighbors. Print signs for them, pass on the phone number, declare your neighborhood a "Smart-Meter-Free Zone." There is great power in numbers, and much can be accomplished when we work together.

Yes, like the bright LED Prius brake lights. I can't stand being behind them when they put the brakes on. So bright and blinding. We don't need brake lights that bright. It may use less power but is so annoying.
Yup, just like the smart meters. Is your horse gonna pull your Prius?
Ever seen the Southpark episode about it? It was funny.
So that brings up the obvious question, how far can they transmit? The radios in our cars are only receivers. They receive signals (yes EM) from radio station towers that transmit with megawatts of power over great distances. (Do you live by one?) Do the smart meters have repeater towers to boost the signal? How far can you transmit with nanowatts?
No, that's caused by overpopulation. If there were fewer people we could drive big gas guzzlers with no problem.
" Obviously you are not affected by the economy and unemployment rates."
What is that supposed to mean? I've been layed off over a year with a 5k/mo. budget and unemployment has run out and facing forclosure. Not affected? Ha ha.
I'd like to hear the facts why smart meters would be bad, not unsupported fear tactics.
You cooks are the same one's that think that a Prius is a clean car using NiMH batteries.
FLOW must be behind this.
DUH. The world isn't flat either. No need to do more research. Post a stupid comment and expect a stupid reply.
"Now we can see that it can be done in a safer, better way(elec., hybrid, hydrogyn etc). May just be that we need to do more research to find if smart meters are the best choice."
OR
"Insults do nothing to help solve complicated problems, careful thought, discussions and differing perspectives can."
What a stupid thing to say. I drive a bus over 17. Who will ride if I use a horse.
Last anonymous isn't really being honest here. "Most" people are NOT concerned at all. Just a few individuals who are against big corporations telling us what to do (but refuse to turn off the service) yet love the present government telling us what to do.
Personally, I received a $900 PG&E bill last year. After I looked into it with PG&E, it was the meter reader who errored on of the significant digits. His reading was one that I hadn’t even been achieved yet on my mechanical meter. I applaud the Smart Meter update which is already a decade too late. We once were leading technology in our country, but then, we sprouted liberalism.
I think that all the comments for the meter are being posted by dingbat Heidi anyway.
