EDITOR,

I want to set the record straight regarding the present Scotts Valley School District board.

Communication between them and parents has never been better. Over the past school year, I have seen a marked increase in availability by board members and in their willingness to listen to a variety of community members. Michael Schulman is actively involved in pursuing the necessary political paths to increase funding and has involved many community members in this effort.

In addition, the parent groups at all four schools have been working together for the first time under the umbrella of the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation. We are united with the board in the effort to preserve our kids’ education over the next few difficult years.

I have found board members both open-minded and solution-oriented, taking all student issues into consideration, not just those of the younger grades.

We actually talked to Schulman when he got elected to school board asking if he was going to support vote against keeping Silver on board, but got an answer "no, because it's too complicated to look for another superintendent"????? And what about his (and other new elected board members) pre-election promise on changing things around?

Ms. Ahlstrom,

When did you poll the SVHS parent club members on the preformance of Susan Silver and the board?

Since you have chosen to bring politics into the parent club I will be putting my money directly into the hands of the teachers who work with my children.

You DO NOT represent my feelings about the current school board and its present leader.

While I have never met you, I just write the checks. I feel the parent clubs need to remain neutral in order to represent all children and their families.

Shoe was adamant about signs warning of bike riders.

Most of them were placed where they obstructed drivers site line of, you guessed it, bike riders. Counterproductive.

do not bother with helping the Alstrom group that is apparently about reelecting Schulman go to the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation and help them with Community Day next month and raising money for the schools and stay out of politics.

Too bad Ms. Ahlstrom did not attend the Vine Hill PTA meeting I attended earlier this year when Shulman rolled his eyes at one parent who attended and raised his voice at him. Why the anger? This parent was asking the same question many of us have been asking for years:

How much did Susan Silver/her board puppets increase the central office bureaucracy the year they let go so many teachers? Why does our tiny district have an assistant Superintendant? Why did they hire a brand new office administrator in a brand new position for over $100,000 per year while they showed so many teachers the door?

These are simple questions, just like it's a simple question whether this board gave Susan Silver another $150,000 guaranteed year on her contract this year. But Shulman won't answer that question. It was asked at the school board meeting but he didn't answer and the media there was too lazy or uninterested to care about the answer.

When is this stuff ever about the kids? Ahlstrom's letter does ring incredibly false. Certainly in disagreement with the majority of parents.

Just imagine Barrack Obama's voice while you read this. Sounds just like one of his positive speeches.

"In addition", "I have found", "solution-oriented" (my favorite).

All perfect, positive and intelligent sounding. Someones been watching and learning. Like that guy that does the KSBW editorials on the news too. Ha ha. I'm serious, imagine Barracks's voice and read it again.

Nice going Mrs. Alstrom. You have succeeded in sullying with politics your group that is supposed to be about the kids by making it about Schulman.

With everything going in in our schools if you think your job is turning the SVHS Parent Club into a cheerleader for Schulman you should resign now and clear the way for somebody who is focused on kids not politics.

Is there any institution this failed school board will not tarnish to prop up Susan Silver?

No I will bet the next planted note from Shulman will be from a teacher talking about how much they enjoy working for bosses like him and Susan Silver despite the 92% of them who said they treat them like dirt as the Banner reported just a few weeks ago.

The administration treating teachers like dirt is only fair because that is how Susan Silver treats everybody else.

I suppose Shulmans next planted e-mail will talk about the winning, respectful personality of Susan Silver.

@ SV Parent

It's so easy to sit back, uninvolved, and snipe at the people that actually volunteer their time and effort to try to make the community they live in a better place for everyone.

I've read quite a few of your hateful posts.

Give us a break.
