A man driving a Land Rover sport utility vehicle veered into a ditch while avoiding a deer on Bear Creek Road this afternoon, slowing traffic on the Boulder Creek road.

The man was uninjured in the crash, but a car driving behind him was rear-ended by another car in the middle of the road after slowing to see if the original driver was OK.

The noon-time accident brought Boulder Creek Fire District, California Highway Patrol Officers and American Medical Response to the scene and caused one-way traffic control for more than an hour while fire crews cleared the cars from the roadway.

Road construction of new fiber optic cables is taking place along Highway 9 north of Boulder Creek, causing slow traffic throughout the area.

Law enforcement officers encourage drivers to be aware while driving through the construction zones.
