Scotts Valley girls teams set to enter SCCAL second round

The Scotts Valley girls soccer and basketball teams will play second-round playoff games Saturday, Feb. 27.

The soccer team, which finished undefeated in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play with a 10-0-2 record, hosts Saratoga High at 10 a.m. at Valley Christian High School in San Jose.

The basketball team will host Santa Cruz High School at Scotts Valley High, with a start time that’s yet to be announced. The Falcons had their best season in team history, finishing 20-7 overall and 7-5 in the SCCAL.

Felton Freeze disc golf on tap

The second Felton Freeze charity disc golf tournament will be Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Black Mouse Disc Golf Course on the San Lorenzo Valley High School campus.

A players meeting will begin at 8 a.m., followed by tee-off at 8:30 a.m.

Entry costs $40 and two or more cans of food per person Ten dollars of each entry fee will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Participants should register in advance.

Free pizza and cash prizes will follow the tournament at Redwood Pizzeria in Felton.

Bethany falls in playoffs

The Bethany University men’s and women’s basketball teams lost in the first round of the California Pacific Conference tournament.

The men fell to William Jessup University, 66-55, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, and finished the season 2-23 overall and 1-11 in the Cal Pac.

The women’s team was blasted by Menlo College, 68-24, to finish the season at 3-22 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
