San Lorenzo Valley High School freshman Haley Nolan won the annual high school speech contest put on by the San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club on Feb. 3 at the high school.

Seven students delivered speeches on the theme, “The future of Rotary is in your hands,” and the top three received award certificates and cash prizes from San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District Superintendent Julie Haff.

Torrin Sweers took second place, and Emily Bright won the third-place award.

Nolan will move on to the Santa Cruz County Rotary Speech Competition at Felton Community Hall at 4 p.m. March 10. She will compete against the winners from six other Rotary clubs.
