Vine Hill Elementary School in Scotts Valley had its sixth annual science fair last weekend.

Teachers said energy ran high as the students competed while learning about science Saturday, Jan. 23.

Ninety students participated, and there were six class entries and one by a Girl Scout troop.

Of the total, 51 students competed in two categories: primary (kindergarten through third grade) and elementary (fourth and fifth grades). 

The top 10 winners will compete in the Santa Cruz County Science Fair on March 13 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville. The Vine Hill winners were announced after the fair.

Here are the winners and the titles of their entries:

Primary Division

Elementary Division

1. Tristan Barca-Hall — Pretty Tough Baby

2. Ariana Davis — Wave and Echolocation

3. Devon Jones — Are Natural Detergents as Good as Synthetic Detergents?

4. Sequoia Jones — Liquid Freeze

5. Megan Gurer — Amazing Cat Whiskers
