Scotts Valley’s Aldin Barrett and San Lorenzo Valley’s Kyle Todd were named Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Most-Valuable Players this week.

San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley highs finished in a three-way tie for the SCCAL championship with Soquel High.

Barrett, a talented receiver and defensive back for the Falcons, finished his senior season with 67 receptions for 1,194 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He also led the Falcons with five interceptions as a defensive back.

Barrett’s biggest game of the season came against Harbor High on Oct. 16, when he had six catches for 210 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

He was a first-team all-league selection as a junior.

Todd, meanwhile, was the most feared runner in the SCCAL.

He racked up 1,683 yards rushing on 271 carries and scored 22 touchdowns. His effort included five games with more than 180 yards rushing, including two games over 200 yards.

He also scored three touchdowns in four separate games and scored in each of the Cougars’ 11 games.

For the second consecutive year, Scotts Valley quarterback Blake Jurich was named offensive player of the year. Jurich led the league in passing, finishing 139-of-240 on the season for 2,360 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

SLV junior Luke Roberts, a talented wide receiver, earned junior of the year honors by leading the Cougars with 28 receptions, 405 yards and six touchdowns.
