Cougars prepare for playoff bout

The sixth-seeded San Lorenzo Valley Cougars football team will battle Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division IV playoffs.

The Cougars (4-3-3) tied with Scotts Valley and Soquel for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League crown and will face the Gators (7-3), who finished second in the Peninsula Athletic League.

Whippersnappers win bocce league

The Scotts Valley Senior Center Bocce Ball League ended the fall season with a playoff for the three leading teams: Team Tre, Tuesday’s Terrors and the Young Whippersnappers.

After a hotly contested playoff, the Young Whippersnappers took home the trophy. The team members were Bev and Steve Johnson, Sandy Welch and Maurice Martinez. 

Tuesday’s Terrors took second. Members of the team were Patti Fickett, Rich Alsbury, Diane Mattox and Zora Dennis.

Third-place team members were Vic Ramirez, Bill Schraft, Georgeann White and Sandy Hartman.

A new league will start play April 1. Sign-ups begin March 1. No experience is necessary, and a free lesson will be given before the spring league.

Rec team wins ’em all

The Scotts Valley-San Lorenzo Valley under-10 recreational soccer Lucky Leprechauns finished the season undefeated with a 9-0 record.

Players included Nicholas Koenig, Wyatt Atchley, Carwyn Blosch, David Cornyn, Leland King, Blake Kuehl, Aidan O’Connor, Kaden Pryor, Jeremy Ritchey, Marko Simic, Liam Tveit, David Yanez and Eli Dockins.

The coach is Wes Koenig, and the assistant coach is Karen Koenig.
