Dr. Bruce Lipton received the 2009 Goi Peace Award in recognition of his pioneering work in the field of new biology.

Lipton’s work as a cell biologist on the link between body and spirit helped him win the award.

The annual Goi Peace Awards recognize individuals and groups that contribute to a peaceful and harmonious life on Earth. Previous winners include Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Robert Muller, assistant secretary general of the United Nations.

Lipton, a Bonny Doon resident, received the award at a Nov. 8 ceremony in Tokyo.

U.S. Air Force Airman Amanda Murray, daughter of Donald Murray of Scotts Valley and Deanna Murray of Tracy and a 2006 graduate of Soquel High School, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Her eight weeks of training covered military discipline, core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
