EDITOR,

Prior to the last Scotts Valley City Council election, I tried to ask Donna Lind if the council was going to look into the financial impact Target would have on businesses in the entire San Lorenzo Valley. I was rudely interrupted by a very tall policeman who said Ms. Lind didn’t have to speak to me, because I’d said that “the City Council is in the pocket of Target.”

I said that was a ridiculous statement, but he insisted he’d heard it from two “reliable sources.” Ms. Lind said they were only interested in Scotts Valley, since that’s where Target would be.

Since the entire San Lorenzo Valley is part of the 5th District and will be directly, and negatively, impacted by Target, I feel it is unconscionable that the council is unconcerned with the effect Target will have on the entire SLV, both in traffic and financial impact. After all, you can’t get to Felton without going through Scotts Valley.

As the owner of a tiny store, Virgo Rising, struggling to survive in this economy after 17 years, I strongly doubt I’d even stay open and try to compete with Target.

Although my merchandise is mostly made in the USA and therefore is of higher quality than Target’s, once people are in Target, they don’t tend to leave and drive to Felton for a gift.

It will be really interesting to see if the City Council will actually consider the citizens of the entire SLV when they make their decision, or if it really is a foregone conclusion, as it seemed at the many meetings where so many people voiced their desire to keep Scotts Valley rural without the many negative impacts of Target.

While much of Target’s revenue will go to the main company in the Midwest, much more taxes will be lost if the small stores close, as usually happens when a big-box store opens.

Ok,, I know this will sound funny but, What if we put in the Wall Mart and then put a Target Store On the roof of the Wall Mart, this way, we as a community could say we have officially thrown in the preverbal towel. ( In regards to quality of life) Not to mention This will look as ridiculously out of place as the Hilton does.. I hope the folks on Silverwood Drive have the clout, money, power and more importantly the drive, to thwart this impending Target from moving in to Scotts Valley. Think about it :/

Target isn't even built and the Community of Scotts Valley is already at each others throat. I miss the Scotts Valley that I have lived in for years. We now have North Scotts Valley against South Scotts Valley. Scotts Valley against SLV. Middle class against middle class. This is tearing our town apart. Can't we all see what this Target project is doing to our town. Target leave town before you do any more damage to our town. You are no longer welcome!

Hey, that's not Paul, it's me.

"I can't wait until we overrun your town. All you Scotts Valley hicks will finally get a taste of the San Jose, Things like education and good music."

Great and when do we get our first gang killing like Santa Cruz. You can't wait to ruin our town huh? Great.

I can't wait until we overrun your town. All you Scotts Valley hicks will finally get a taste of the San Jose, Things like education and good music. I could care less less about Target, I want you to build the Town center and sent that bible college packing. I like watching both sides at each others throats. This is high sport, and the funny part is I believe what BOTH sides are saying. It doesn't matter if the Council is corrupt and defunct. It's a bout time that he bubble of Hicksville join the rat race.

I'm in the middle of your camp.

That's how I know what you wish I didn't.

Paul is your best bet for voice of reason.

I can assure you am not restrained by his ideals.

Keep guessing though.

Dewes to you.

One of the main reasons why " I have never before seen our town so divided as it is right now" is due to the public spotlight someone is making of the No Target!!!! Still we are sitting at 10% of people against it. The city has been growing at the same rate. We are going to get larger and larger. We need more sales tax. Moving to Scotts Valley to get away of the San Jose sounds good if you were to move where there was not houses on both sides of you and you didn't have a street light.

Recognizable Names

Lets all be honest. Most people vote for people based upon names that they recognize. The average voter wouldn't know if Bustichi was for or against Target despite the fact that he is the one who is most behind the big-box coming to our once quiet town.

I have never before seen our town so divided as it is right now. If a single store 1/3 larger than Santa Cruz Costco was appropriate for our town of 11,700 you wouldn't see this sort of opposition. Scotts Valley might as well call itself South San Jose, the Scotts Valley most of us love won't be around much longer under this City Council.

Personally I like Scotts Valley as a quiet suburban town where you can raise a family and don't want to see it morph into little more than a shopping mecca with all of the associated traffic and issues.

"You are no longer welcome!"

Ah but they are, according to "Loves Scotts Valley" 90% want it.

The citizens voted for the current council knowing full well that they are pro-Target.

So if we had a nice cute little rural town here and a bunch of San Jose people moved here and became the majority I guess we get San Jose.

Poetic Justice.

Ever wonder why a handful of North Siders are calling the shots for the while city? Reed is playing both ends, Skypark and the rest are taking notice. That whole traffic mess will effect them most, but he is squarely aligned with the pro Target camp, so it's only a matter of time before he squeezed out. Bitter sweet, spit it out, not a Northsider, not defending the quality of life people are about to give up. No one will thank Reed in the end. Makes you wonder why the latest story featured no author. Reed is a contributing journalist and his influence at the paper borders on breaking Browns Law rules.

And Lind, what is she going to do? If she had any brains she would have made Chief, now she is a serving volunteering officer, AND her own Boss on the Council. That is only one of many ways she rolls. She is documented as having close relationships with the DA's office and the other officers, the wall of silence. In the performance of public duty, she is far from perfect, we all will pay for her lack of vision and leadership. I'm sure she would make a good baby sitter...maybe not. Why would she want to attract child molesters, sexual predators, meth dealers, felony crime , the pollution, the traffic, to our city? Target is the fast track invitation to all of this riff raff and the gangs too. Using your tax dollar so they can handle the problem, which will never end.

I've seen her facebook friends, one is a good friend of mine. They all have kids too. So either she doesn't give a crap about anyones kids, or she is hellbent on protecting record. I would live to see who expunged that record of you know who. And give an full detailing of those events, I bet the record is VERY clear. So the facts show she is in fact soft on crime. She may have put a Hells Angel away fro extortion, but now she serves another master. Soft serve anyone?

When Santa Row SV is built what to you think will happen to the trailer park across the street? It will be TOO valuable to remain as affordable housing. Bustichi has already said that the other park in the way of the SV middle school might face eminent domain. Then took it back, even had his buddies at the paper run a story to say so. Well, all you South siders, wake up, see the writing on the wall. Your conveyor belt is being turned on and you are slowly being edged forward. higher taxes thanks to Target, the EIR said so. It's a war on the poor.

Taxes,

Permanent low wage, part time jobs. (but they will go to the immigrants in Santa Cruz who would rather do that than pick in the sun all day.

The construction trades - Where is your future in all this? They use outside labor - your support for Bustichi is misguided. He's probably a good family man, but he is quick to do whatever the political machine needs. Connected yes, leader no.

Even if the council votes, they will still cover their tracks with a proposition after the fact at election time. Look at Davis, that's how they roll.

ANy the majority is probably not so happy to read that they will ALL have taxes because of the Target in the Gateway South. it is poetic justice.

A community no more

Ben Dover,

How do you know what the majority wants?

I suggested an election would be a fair way to go about it but I know the crappy city council will make the call.

The community elected the city council, so the community should feel represented..

So if we get a Target, and the town turns to shit.

Remember to keep on voting republican!

Huge Ass: you are rattling your ignorant sword about Target again. You assume that the citizens of Scotts Valley will get a chance to vote on this issue. That is not the case. This decision is to be made by the 5 Republican Scotts City Council members, without any majority vote from the citizens of Scotts Valley or the San Lorenzo Valley. Without an election no one will know for sure what the community wants.Yet again you make a huge ass of yourself.

A retired SV Officer walks into a council meeting. She wants a taxpayer paid bodyguard because she is afraid, of a horrible woman asking questions.

Maybe your lucky she did not shoot you out of fear?

Did she run for an office supposed to talk to citizens?

Is she the only recipient that actually lives in SV city limits?

How funny!

Did she protect, if she cannot protect herself.

Make you wish your taxes funded teachers instead?

Just say: "No, to draining public coffers".

If the majority want a Target, then majority rules...

Did I wake up in Russia? This is America!

Do you know why gays can't marry?...It is because the majority does not want them to.If gays were a majority, gay's could marry...but they are not so they can't.

Do you know why Obama got elected?

It was because the majority of American's thought the republicans under GWB did such a piss poor job that just about any democrat that would have ran would have beaten McCain.

Now the Majority in this town for whatever reason wants a Target.

Will it change the town?

Yeah some good will be cheaper and some overpriced businesses will be forced to compete or die...

That is the American way..

MAJORITY RULES!

"I was rudely interrupted by a very tall policeman who said Ms. Lind didn’t have to speak to me, because I’d said that “the City Council is in the pocket of Target."

Wow that must have been a nice experience. What is that, her body guard speaking for her? You are certainly entitled to your opinion and freedom of speech.

"It will be really interesting to see if the City Council will actually consider the citizens of the entire SLV when they make their decision"

Yes they will consider you, as customers for their Target store so they get get more tax revenue. Ha ha. They couldn't care less about inconveniencing anyone. All they care about is tax revenue. They couldn't care less that thousands of people have to sit in traffic or that a beautiful scenic route is ruined. Like one of our city planners suggested, you can just listen to a book on tape while you sit in traffic or leave earlier. Ya right. I can't even get my kids up for school now let alone get them up any earlier. And we shouldn't have to. When you do your errands any time you want that's a good quality of life. When you are held hostage by traffic and need to "plan around it" that's a bad quality of life. We all take our kids to school in the morning and have to go to work in the morning too. We can't just "plan around it". Have you seen 41st ave. at christams time. Yup, will be like that here too. Maybe the northbound offramp into SV at Mt Hermon will back up all the way back into the highway. This is so stupid.

Can you think of anything more San Jose-ish than a Target? And can you think of a more pretty field to ruin to put it in? The fact that the council would even consider it shows what kind of people are running our town, the wrong kind.

"This town can either be bitterly divided and argue over it, or just put this to the voters and let them decide."

I think a vote would result in the Target being passed since most Scotts Valleyans are valley transplants who voted for this council already. Most Scotts Valley people would like to see Mt. Hermon rd. turn into Stevens Creek blvd. and the old airstrip into Santana row.

By the way, I have shopped in your store and will not set one foot in Target.

"She won with the highest vote."

Yes because she is more well known than the others. Like Randy. No-one wants to take a chance on an unknown. Plus, they all knew she was pro Target and so are they. Yes, sadly only 10% of SV people want to keep it rural. The other 90% want San Jose. So when you commute home for one hour because there are no good jobs here you can come home to the same thing you just left.

She won with the highest vote. Even the lowest people of votes running knew she would get the highest votes. Sorry you 10% of people who don't like her can't change things. I would vote for her again. Welcome SV Target!!!! OH YA...please you 10% show up to the City Council meeting and make a difference....

>> I was rudely interrupted by a very tall policeman who said Ms. Lind didn’t have to speak to me

That's how she rolls. She has a double standard. And learning the art of speaking through her friends like the local papers and her lap dogs. It's abuse of her power and position.

That is how that crew rolls and seemingly have no shame doing so. She already said she is for the Target and will need to recuse herself.

Tell me when and when the last time the council showed any VISION for the Gateway South, or the people in SLV who travel through SV every day?

Talk to Mark Stone about the Scenic Route while you have a chance.

Hum..100 Million dollars heading out of town, and you want to vote? Based upon the fact that newspapers and the Council are in the pockets of Target who do you think is manufacturing consent? It's you. Jown Dews, don't assume that the way you pushed into Davis, is the same way you will here. The fact is your PR is going to to have WAY more to do if you ruin this redwood community, and we are going to let EVERY community know what you did and how EXACTLY you did it. And any government worker who had a hand it in will be be duly noted.

We have found evidence that the the "Pro-Traget" Davis citizens committee had given their formal community support, only to turn around HIRE that person for the Scotts Valley web site for Target.

Target has actually hired someone who has been viciously maligning our community members who are seeking to keep CRIME and TRAFFIC and POLLUTION and SEX OFENDERS out of our community.

The evidence is in the Davis City minutes. Target you are truly barking up the wrong tree. Your PR tao is broken and we are following, and we will be pushing for legislation at the state and national level. You do understand we are in the heart of the support for Obama? How long do you think it is going to take us to educate him on the abusive tactics and destruction of one of the very few Scenic Routs in Cali.

I the end, we are your Siamese twin Target, you will wish you never open the door to this community. You ongoing presence will be the very moniker we attach your legacy to and will be a constant reminder of why it will be easy to get the change at the State and National level, a photo of a giant red logo from 17.

Target hates the Redwood communities by closing it's businesses and polluting it's city and adding to the dangerous hwy 17 mess. Our friend sand family will be in the meat grinder so they can sell melamine tabletops.

We are not point to the council anymore, they have shown their hand, nor the residents, votes don't matter. We will manufacture your legacy for ALL to see. Let the light shine in your window John Dewes.
