More than $13,500 in cash and $12,000 in checks were stolen from an unlocked desk drawer in a Scotts Valley office earlier this week.

The money was kept by Harbor High School head football coach Travis Rebbert in his office at Jim Leonard’s Home Mortgage Connection on Whispering Pines Drive.

The money was raised by the Harbor High School football team to help pay for equipment and travel during the season.

“We have a few leads we’re trying to follow up with,” Scotts Valley police Sgt. Jayson Rutherford said.

There were no signs of forced entry, and police are conducting interviews. The burglary happened sometime during the night of Tuesday, Aug. 25, or the next morning.

“It’s a very public case, so we’re anxious to get it wrapped up,” Rutherford said.
