As of 3 p.m. today, Cal Fire had reported that the Lockheed Fire near Bonny Doon in the Santa Cruz Mountains has consumed 6,843 acres.

But it is 50 percent contained, and the mandatory evacuation order for Bonny Doon residents has been lifted.

Fire officials have said no homes have been lost in the fire that started close to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cause is still unknown.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the area Saturday, and Lt. Gov. John Garamendi declared a state of emergency for Santa Cruz County on Friday.

More than 2,165 firefighters have fought the Lockheed Fire, named because it’s near a Lockheed Martin Corp. Space Systems facility.

Cal Fire reports that the cost so far is $6.2 million.

Evacuation orders remain for the 300 residents of the mountain communities of Swanton and Davenport.

Thank you ALL the firefighters and fire departments that responded. When there is a fire this big, it is reassuring to know that Fire Districts, City Fire Departments, County Fire Departments, Volunteer Companies, Paid Fire Suppression Companies and CDF all respond.

Let us know when Santa Cruz County or the soon to be formed Bonny Doon Fire District can lend YOU a hand.
