San Jose Giants for Jerry Mac

A fundraiser San Jose Giants baseball game for 2008 San Lorenzo Valley High graduate Jerry MacCallister is planned for July 18. Six dollars from every $7 ticket sold to the San Jose Giants versus Modesto Nuts will go to help the MacCallister family with medical costs. MacCallister is paralyzed from the neck down after crashing on his motorcycle on Jan. 2. Tickets are available at www.followingjerry.com, Felton Feed, Scotts Valley Cyclesport and We All Ride in Soquel.

Bethany volleyball adds two

The Bethany University volleyball team has added two new players to its ranks. Becky Heiner, a 5-foot, 11-inch setter from Oceanside and Calai Brown, a 5-8 utility player from North Highlands, signed letters of intent to play for the Bruins in the fall.

“We are extremely excited to have Becky and Calai joining our volleyball family,” said coach Reed Duffus. “They are a good combination of size and athleticism, are great students and possess the drive to play for us here at Bethany.”

The two join freshmen Allison Rowe and Ashley Coila, and junior transfer, Katie Schmidt from Cascade College, who signed this past spring.
