A funeral was held today for longtime San Lorenzo Valley resident Ricky L. Rhett who died unexpectedly from heart failure while at work on April 13. He was 59.

Mr. Rhett was born in San Jose and moved to the San Lorenzo Valley with his family while a youth. He attended San Lorenzo Valley High School and lived in the valley for 44 years.

Mr. Rhett was an accomplished craftsman and enjoyed building and repair projects with family, friends and at work.

At the time of his passing, he was employed at Home Depot in Capitola.

Mr. Rhett loved his dog Duke and liked to go on bike rides with friends in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Wilder Ranch. He enjoyed to golf with his siblings.

Mr. Rhett was always willing to help friends with a chore or job. He appreciated the gifts he had and had a kind and gentle manner. Although opinionated at times, Mr. Rhett was sincere and could be found often reading his Bible in solitude.

He is survived by his mother Mary Rhett of Modesto; sons Ricky L. Ingram and his wife Sonny of Florida and Nathaniel Rhett of Soquel; daughters Carrie Banker of Felton and Chrystal Rhett of Scotts Valley; sisters Dorothy Herceg of Felton, Fredda Dunn of Modesto; brother Dennis Rhett of New York; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held today at 2 p.m., Friday, April 25 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga Street in Santa Cruz. A private burial will follow.
