Locals excel in the classroom

- Caitlin Taylor of Felton was named to the Whitworth University Laureate Society, in Spokane, Wash., for the Fall 2013 semester. She qualified for the honors society by keeping a grade point average of 3.75 or above for the semester.

- Duncan Lindberg of Felton made the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Science Dean’s List, in Rochester, NY, for the Fall 2013 semester.

He qualified for the Dean’s List with a grade point average of 3.4 or above.

- Angela Lu Hershberger of Felton made the Norwich University Dean’s List, in Northfield, Vt., for the Fall 2013 semester.

She qualified for the Dean’s List by keeping a grade point average of 3.0 or above and completed 12 or more credit hours.

- Rachel Bickert of Ben Lomond made the Whittier College Dean’s List, in Whittier, CA, for the Fall 2013 semester. She qualified for the Dean’s List by earning a grade point average of 3.7 or above and completed 12 or more units during the Fall semester.

- Miryam Becker of Ben Lomond, a sophomore majoring in environmental engineering, made the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Dean’s List, in Worcester, Mass., for the Fall 2013 semester.

 

Local artists honored

Local artists Johanna McCormick, Jennifer Hennig, Tina Masciocchi and LAuruS Myth were awarded by the Triton Museum in San Jose, for their Prime Time artwork displayed at the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center exhibition on January 24.

McCormick was awarded Best of Show for her painting “What is Under.” Hennig was awarded second place for her sculpture “Survivor.” Masciocchi was awarded Honorable Mention for her mixed media collage “Fly Away,” and Myth was also awarded an Honorable Mention for her acrylic on canvas painting “Initiation.”

The exhibition will be open through April 5, Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m at the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center, 9341 Mill St. in Ben Lomond. Admission is free. For more information: www.mountainartcenter.org
