Poets sought for contest
Poets are invited to enter the 12th annual Verse in the Valley poetry contest put on by the Scotts Valley Arts Commission.
Poems may not exceed 200 words, but there is no limit to the number of poems that can be submitted.
Winners will read their poems to the Scotts Valley City Council, and the winning poems will be published in the Press-Banner.
A $50 cash honorarium will be given to the teachers of winning students.
Poems must be submitted by April 20.

Music history talk Sunday
Historian and author Frank Perry will speak about his book “Notes from Santa Cruz: The County’s Musical History” during the first historical talk of 2013 hosted by the San Lorenzo Valley Museum.
The talk will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the museum, 12547 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek.
Perry will discuss Santa Cruz’s musical history from 1870 to 1970 and show some rare photographs.
Historian Ross Gibson will perform Santa Cruz musical compositions, with Katie McKee as vocalist.
A $5 per-family donation is appreciated.

Bowling fundraiser on tap
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County is hosting the 30th annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser in Santa Cruz.
The organization seeks teams of five or more to participate in the two-day fundraiser, April 20 and 21, at Boardwalk Bowl, 115 Cliff St., in Santa Cruz.
Bowlers of all ages are invited, and each person on a team must raise $120 to participate.
Big Brothers Big Sisters will put all proceeds toward building mentor relationships between children and adults.
As of this week, 60 teams had signed up. The fundraiser has room for 200.
