Bob and Arleen Hulsey recently celebrated 50 years of marriage with a dinner at Bruno’s Barbeque in Scotts Valley.

A number of relatives and friends attended the dinner, including their children and grandchildren.

The Hulseys were married June 30, 1962, at the Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel. That same month, they moved to Santa Cruz County.

Mrs. Hulsey was born in Port Orford, Ore., but has been a long-time resident of California. She graduated from Pacific Grove High School in Pacific Grove and went on to Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey. She completed her education at Fresno State College in 1962, graduating with an elementary school teaching credential.

She taught for more than 20 years in the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School district and then worked for eight years as a registrar at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center.

Mr. Hulsey was born in Leadwood, Mo., and graduated from high school in the same state. He attended University of Missouri for two years and eventually earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology from Fresno State in 1962. The couple graduated together that June.

Mr. Hulsey served as a probation officer in the county of Santa Cruz for 32 years. After retiring, he worked as an income tax preparer out of his home for seven years.

The Hulseys have two daughters, Colette Schaefer and Jenny Bechtle, and four grandchildren, who all live in Scotts Valley. The Hulseys have lived in Ben Lomond for almost 50 years.
