EDITOR:
I want to congratulate Fred Keeley for his support for Bruce McPherson and Bruce for earning Fred’s support that transcended party lines. Fred and Bruce worked together to find funds for Junction Park in Boulder Creek, the Felton Covered Bridge, the Tannery Arts Center, and the Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center in Santa Cruz. Bruce and Fred worked tirelessly to raise funds to protect and preserve for future generations the 6,800 acres of our north coast lands with its ecological diversity and viewsheds. Fred and Bruce supported development of Long Marine Lab that is a major community resource in marine public education, and a leader in research on coastal and marine issues.
Bruce has done excellent work on our behalf and has a history of significant accomplishments that cross party lines. Bruce will bring this proven record to the Board of Supervisors. We need this kind of reflective problem-solving leadership.

Support for Bruce McPherson
I applaud Fred Keeley for publicly endorsing Bruce McPherson for 5th District Supervisor. Too often we take sides based on political party affiliation instead of qualifications.
Throughout their years of public service Bruce and Fred have always put the people of Santa Cruz County first. They have worked hard to support legislation, programs, and ballot measures that have improved our environment and bettered our community.
Like Fred I am also supporting Bruce's campaign for Supervisor. I have known and worked with Bruce for many years. I know he cares deeply about the people of Santa Cruz County, and in that, I share his values. Bruce is the most qualified candidate in this race and he will bring his unique set of qualifications to the Board of Supervisors.
I hope readers will join Fred and I in supporting Bruce no matter their party affiliation.
Then Jim C unsuccessfully states that McPherson is supported by just a few. McPherson's endorsement page is dramatically significant, sincere, and impressively adorned with the better aspects of county leadership.
On the other hand, Jim C sounds like a newcomer to Santa Cruz County! Bruce McPherson had a successful business career before he ever ran for office. He was always nonpartisan, and only registered as a Republican in 1964 to vote for Scranton versus Goldwater in the primary. If anyone's a traitor to his party, that must be Fred Keeley. But I like him anyway.
You apparently are showing your ignorance of the candidates. Thus the crux of the problem with our government these days. People blindly following "Names" instead of getting to know the candidates...
Once again, supporters of McPherson write nonsense about other candidates based upon nonsensical ideas as opposed to FACT.
Lets get some facts straight:
McPherson has been a career politician. So if ANYONE is feeding at the "trough" it is Mr. McPherson...
The people supporting McPherson are all cronies from his prior political days. THAT is the problem! We need change! Not someone who twists in the wind to get elected, someone who changes parties in a feeble attempt to garner more votes.
Mr. Hammer has a real job. His supporters have real jobs. Mr. Hammer wants to improve the community, make change, that's what we need in government, not the status quo with a bunch of other career politicians!
McPherson just wants to do more of the same... We don't need that! The people need Eric Hammer for Supervisor for District 5!
Let's just hope that McPherson gets elected.
Too bad he can't come up with support from people who actually LIVE in the district.
Also, as the vote numbers show, he has PLENTY of support in the 5th District.
