Falcons upend Cougars in girls hoops
Natalia Ebrahimian led the charge as five Falcons players posted scores in the double-digits as Scotts Valley dominated the Cougars 80-17 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Jan. 9.
Ebrahimian scored 27 points with five assists and 11 steals to record a double-double. Teammate Tori Bridges added 14 points and 11 rebounds while Nadene Hart had 10 points and eight rebounds, Hanna Finis and Mandy Silver added another 10 points each. Scotts Valley (11-3, 2-1 SCCAL) plays next at 7 p.m on Friday, Jan. 13 against Soquel.
SLV drops to 0-11 and 0-3 in league and plays next at 7 p.m. on Friday Jan 13 at Santa Cruz.
Cougar wrestlers take down Soquel
SLV won five forfeits and one match to defeat their host, the Soquel Knights 33-15 in the team’s SCCAL opener.
The Cougars (1-0 SCCAL) victory came by a 11-6 decision at the 160-pound weight class by Patrick Brooks.
In the 138-pound class, Sonny Torres defeated SLV’s Elliot Doran by a 5-3 decision.
Falcon boys hoops get revenge
Senior captain Jack Pasquini sank four 3-pointers as Scotts Valley defeated visiting San Lorenzo Valley High 62-43 in the team’s first SCCAL meeting. The Cougars beat the Falcons in both meetings last season. The Falcons (9-6, 2-1 SCCAL) sank nine three pointers and outscored the Cougars 19-5 in the second quarter to take a 38-17 lead at half time.
Pasquini finished the night with 25 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks and teammate Garrett Johnston added nine points and seven rebounds while his brother Willie Johnston had another nine points.
Eric Lange scored 12 points and Billy Mullins added 10 for the Cougars (4-10, 0-3 SCCAL).
Scotts Valley plays at Aptos at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday Jan 19.
The Cougars play next at Santa Cruz High on Friday Jan.13 at 5:30 p.m.
Falcon girls soccer outlasts Mariners
The Lady Falcons continued their unbeaten streak in league and upended the highly touted Aptos Mariners 1-0 in SCCAL play. This was their third consecutive win in league play. The Falcons winning goal came from junior forward Taylor Rohde in the 76th minute of play.
The Falcons and Mariners are ranked No. 1 and No.2 in the Santa Cruz Sentinel power poll. The Falcons (6-3-2, 3-0 SCCAL) play next at Depot Park against Harbor High at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17.
