Scotts Valley Idol applications accepted

Malone’s Grill is accepting applications for its annual Scotts Valley Idol competition. The live singing competition in its fourth year begins Jan. 15 at Malone’s, 4402 Scotts Valley Drive. The competition is limited to 30 non-professional singers.

The first-place prize is $300, second $200 and third $100.

A panel of judges will judge the semifinals, which will be Jan. 15, 23 and 29, and the semifinals and finals, held Jan. 5.

Comerica gives furniture to schools

Comerica Bank in Scotts Valley has donated all of its furniture — four large desks, eight chairs, four swivel chairs, a conference table, four conference table chairs, three large waiting area chairs and an end table — to Scotts Valley High School.

The bank is remodeling, and the manager, Martine Joes, called the school, which said it could put the furniture to good use.



Winery earns organic label

Vine Hill Winery in Scotts Valley announced this month that it has received organic certification from the California Certified Organic Farmers.

The 2010 vintages of estate-grown pinot noir and syrah are the first of Vine Hill’s wines to bear the “organically grown” label under the accreditation.
