For the 15th year, Valley Churches United Missions recognized its Angels of the Year at Scopazzi’s Restaurant in Boulder Creek this week.

The people and organizations honored Thursday, Dec. 3, with Angel awards have been exemplary service volunteers and contributors to the organization.

Individuals of the year

Fran Golder in the food pantry, Cyndi Jarvis with the senior program, Larry and Jeanne Sikes in the Holiday Boutique, Diana Belzer in the Holiday Boutique, Matt and Lisa Rodgers with fundraiser events.

Youth angels

Felton 4-H Club has answered the call to contribute since 1987. The club gathers school supplies and food and decorates and delivers senior boxes. Several members have led holiday food drives and filled sandbags during recent storms.

Business of the year

Slawinksi Auction Company: Bob Slawinksi and family have been strong supporters since the 1980s. The auctioneering from Bob and son Rob helped purchase the current Valley Churches building.

Organization of the year

The Boulder Creek Cookie Bakers bake an average of 75 boxes of cookies each year for senior holiday boxes.

Church of the year

St. Michael’s Catholic Church has many active Valley Churches volunteers and board members. The church adopts children and families during the holidays and has two benefit breakfasts each year for Valley Churches. The church also opens to feed the homeless on Fridays.

Media of the year

Community TV aired a video showing Valley Churches’ history since 1982, helping bring in many donations.

Memorial recognition

Mary Ann Hirschfeld was a volunteer and board member from 1987 through 1997. Les Grizzell helped out with the nonprofit’s efforts from 1989 through 2009.
