Have you got an idea for something you’d like to see happen in Felton, Ben Lomond or Boulder Creek?

The chance to get the community behind your idea might come as early as Feb. 26, when Supervisor Bruce McPherson hosts the first of three public gatherings to revisit the valley communities’ town plans.

“I want to get to see what they think,” McPherson said. “I want to see what projects they might be interested in doing.”

The town plans first came into being 26 years ago, when Felton residents c laid out a plan for the future development of their community, setting a course that has led to much of the Felton that exists today.

By 1992, Ben Lomond and Boulder Creek had followed suit, and all three plans helped lead to recreation infrastructure improvements and parks, such as Covered Bridge Park in Felton.

But after more than two decades, McPherson said, many of the items in the original town plans have been accomplished.

He expressed hope that the meetings would generate a renewed interest in the town plans, as well as encourage residents to add new ideas or to reprioritize items from the existing ones.

“I think to make anything like this happen you’re going to have to get some energy behind it,” McPherson said. “I think it’s something that hasn’t been focused on in a while.”

According to Robin Musitelli, McPherson’s chief of staff, the meetings are open to all residents will include those involved with the original town plans, as well as county planning and economic development staff.

“Over the course of the next two months, we’re going to host meetings in each community,” she said. “It’s been a long time since those plans were adopted — maybe something different has come up in the meantime.”

The Feb. 26 meeting in Boulder Creek will be followed by gatherings in Ben Lomond in March and Felton in April, Musitelli.

McPherson looks forward to getting input from the community, and added that the current town plans are available online on the District 5 webpage on the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors website.

The Ben Lomond and Felton meetings have not been officially scheduled, but the Boulder Creek meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the multipurpose room of Boulder Creek Elementary School.
