A memorial service was held this week for lifelong Felton resident Steven Dennis, who died unexpectedly this month in Santa Cruz. He was 57.
Mr. Dennis was born to Betty Joy Dennis and Leo Wayne Dennis in San Jacinto. He was raised in Felton and spent his early childhood in the forest of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, where his father was a ranger. He graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1973 and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice fromUniversityofNevada,Reno, in 1977. He retired as a sergeant from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department after 31 years of service.
Mr. Dennis loved to camp and fish atDavisLake. He was a fan of the San Francisco Giants and enjoyed watching baseball and football with his family and friends.
He was a former volunteer firefighter with Felton Volunteer Fire Department and served as a director of the Felton Fire Protection District for 15 years.
Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife of 36 years, Laurie Dennis; daughters, Katie Dennis, Carly Dennis and Emily Dennis; and sister, Judy Anderson, all of Felton.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1997 and his mother in 2002.
A service was held July 25 at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz (www.pacificgardenschapel.com), followed by a reception at Felton Fire Station. Burial in Felton District Cemetery will be private.
