Former Secretary of State Bruce McPherson has come out victorious in his bid for 5th District Santa Cruz County Supervisor, nearly one month after the election.

The Santa Cruz County Clerk's Office certified the county results of the Nov. 6 general election, this afternoon, Dec. 4.

McPherson, of Pasatiempo, garnered 12,258 votes, a mere 145 votes more than runner-up Eric Hammer of Brookdale, who received 12,113 votes.

The November election was a runoff between the two candidates, as McPherson was just shy of the 50 percent, plus-one vote he needed to win the seat during the June primary.

My Congrats to McPherson.

Now I'm wondering if we can get the Ben Lomond transfer station open on Saturdays again.

What do you say?

Congrats Bruce! Looking forward to your leadership in the 5th district. You are the only politician that has ever knocked on my door. Our conversation was brief but your experience stood out above all.

Regardless of how you may have wanted this election to turn out, it all depended on ..."Turnout". This close election shows how every vote counts.

That does not mean that everyone MUST vote on every issue and every candidate. I am fine if uninformed people abstain on issues or candidates or elections that they don't know anything about.

I do like it when informed voters go to the polls.

Our legacy of fine Supervisors in the 5th District will be carried forward and you can only further burnish your wonderful record of public service. Very well earned congratulations to both you and your lovely wife Mary. Side by side you two knocked on over a thousand doors!
