Two 2002 San Lorenzo Valley High School graduates have leveraged their sales experience to launch an online auto brokerage business.
Friends and business partners Jeff Long of Felton and Jeremy Woolley of San Jose earned their auto broker licenses in 2012 and have developed Longshot Auto Sales, an online business for tailored for auto buyers.
“Most auto brokers in the past will charge customers,” Long said. However, Long and Woolley have negotiated a finder’s fee of sorts – the dealerships have agreed to pay the two a flat rate for bringing in customers.
Customers can browse www.longshotautosales.com and select a vehicle they are interested in. They then contact Longshot to find out about the vehicle, check credit and receive the most accurate quote possible.
“We help the customer,” said Long. “Most auto brokers in the past will charge the customer. Now we don’t have to charge. We’ll go to work for them.”
Customers can also request a make and model and Longshot will work to find the vehicle the customer asks for.
Before starting the auto brokerage, the two sold cell phones for Verizon Wireless for 5 years before they moved to the auto industry where they sold new and used vehicles, learning the auto industry inside and out. Long worked for Toyota of Santa Cruz and Woolley for Honda and Nissan where he eventually became a business director.
“It took us 5 years to get the experience we needed,” Long said. “We can do the deal front to back. We learned the whole process and we got to know a lot of people in the industry.”
Longshot has 1,800 vehicles listed on their website – all are located in the Bay Area at dealerships they have partnered with.
Woolley is excited to be part of the new venture.
“Everything is possible, you just have to work hard for it,” he said.
