Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
Club members were up early on a Saturday morning to clean an adopted section of Highway 17 through the center of Scotts Valley. In addition, members built a new cover for the barbecue pits at the Scotts Valley Senior Center.
Club members continue to serve lunches twice a month at the Senior Center. The club also contributed $400 to sponsor a local Little League team.
Coming up, the lions will host their 15th annual golf tournament on September 14 at Boulder Creek Country Club. Those interested in golfing should call Tim Kirby at 320-5397 or email email@example.com. The club will also host its second bocce ball tournament Oct. 7 at Skypark.

San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club
On Aug. 4, club members worked at Felton Community Hall, cleaning up the landscaping around the hall, as an ongoing commitment of our club. On Aug. 21, the club welcomed 40 new teachers and a principal to San Lorenzo Unified School District during a breakfast at the district offices.
Club members will attend the Sept. 11 opening day of the Santa Cruz County Fair. Then, on Sept. 22, members will go to Second Harvest Food Bank for a breakfast and barrel wrap.
In September, the club will meet and hear the following speakers: Sept. 5, Don Broesamle from Mount Hermon Conference Center; Sept. 12, Willie Elliott-McCrea from Second Harvest Foot Bank; Sept. 19, Joe Hamilton, District 5170 governor; Sept. 26, information on AIDS in Liberia.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive at Mount Hermon Conference Center. Cost is $10.
Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley
The free Music at Skypark concert series, put on by the club, continued Aug. 26 with the Coffis Brothers and opening act Skandalism.
Kiwanis organizes Music at Skypark to support music programs in local schools. Last year’s concerts and sponsors raised more than $20,000.
The final concert of the year will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. The concert will open with Funkranomicon, and the headliner will be eXtra-Large, arguably the most popular band in the area.
Kiwanis hosts evening meeting at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Kiwanis also meets at 7 a.m. other Wednesdays. All meetings are at Bruno's BBQ, 230-G Mount Hermon Road ($5). Those interested in the charitable work of Kiwanis are welcome to attend.
